Interlachen is one of the few small towns in Putnam County with its own K–6 elementary and its own Junior-Senior High School in town. That keeps bus commutes manageable for families inside the village. And just seven miles west on SR-100 sits Q.I. Roberts Jr.-Sr. High in Florahome — the highest-rated public school in the county and an open-enrollment option for any Putnam County family.1

Both Interlachen Elementary and Interlachen Jr.-Sr. High sit on State Road 315 inside town, so bus rides for in-town addresses are short. Important note on Browning-Pearce Elementary: Although it's sometimes listed in older resources as serving the "Interlachen / West Putnam" area, Browning-Pearce Elementary is actually located in San Mateo on the east side of Putnam County (about 25+ miles east of Interlachen) and does not serve Interlachen residents.14

1. Walkable / drivable for in-town addresses. Both Interlachen Elementary and Interlachen Jr.-Sr. High are inside the village on SR-315, so bus rides for in-town homes are short. That's a real quality-of-life factor compared to Welaka or Pomona Park, where every school day is a 14-mile bus ride to Crescent City.

2. The agricultural / FFA program is a genuine pull. If your family is rural-Florida by lifestyle — small horse property, hobby farm, livestock, or anyone heading toward an ag-track career — Interlachen Jr.-Sr. High's active FFA chapter and Agriscience pathway makes the school a real fit rather than just a default zoning assignment.5

3. Q.I. Roberts is the "step up" option. Many Interlachen families who want a higher-rated public option apply for choice enrollment at Q.I. Roberts in Florahome (A-rated, 9/10 GreatSchools, about 7 miles away).1 It's open to any Putnam County family through the district choice process — but seats are competitive. If that's part of your plan, start the application early in the school year.
